Christmas Message 2025 from Pastor Elias Apetogbo - Continental President, AABF

Colossians 1:16-17 “For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. And he is before all things, and in him all things subsist.”

Our Africa is in turmoil. A general catastrophe with upheaval where the compass struggles to find its bearings. The world is changing upside down. The ubiquity of lies, deception, cunning, duplicity, falsehood, and hypocrisy is almost at its zenith. Betrayal, disappointment, violence, dirty tricks, and attacks are commonplace. Greed, dissatisfaction, avarice, and selfishness are on display. Social, moral, economic, and physical violence and brutality are justified and supported by the law of the strongest.

Values that were once more or less respected, even revered, no longer mean anything. The fear of God is dying. Man, still a creature of God, in his fragility and vulnerability, cheerfully deludes himself into thinking he can take control of his destiny, if only it could be defined. Some languish under the weight of hunger, others are driven by the sword from their own peaceful territories. Insecurity and fear are everywhere, even in the most secure salons. A crisis of mistrust pervades the atmosphere. Strategic alliances are multiplying. Peace is sought and pursued in a hopeless chaos. Everyone plays along, willingly or unwillingly, in their own way. Some are acclaimed, others despised; everyone has their own tendencies, and true inclinations are almost hidden.

The political world is polluted from within as well as without. Gurus exert pressure and make decisions at the expense of those most vulnerable. Forces clash. Our Jerusalem is shaken by the frenzy of its theatrical arena. Everything is in decline. Everyone trusts their own truth. Corruption has spread to almost every sphere. The Church seems to be tamed by politicians. Mouths are shut, feet are cut off, hands are tied, lives are lost by the thousands every day, including those of the most powerful.

What if we returned to the benchmark? The benchmark of the world is Christ. Colossians 1:16-17 “For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. And he is before all things, and in him all things subsist.”

All things subsist in Christ Jesus. Apart from Him, the world will continue in discord, in despair, and will go from bad to worse. It is in Him that all life subsists. It is in Him that every effort for peace becomes real and effective. Apart from Him, efforts will be in vain. He is the solution for the world. He is the solution for Africa. He is the solution for every country. He is the solution for every life. Jesus, the benchmark of the world, is born. Outside of Him, nothing has meaning. Outside of Him, thrones, dignities, dominions, and authorities have no existence. They are all like a flower that appears and quickly disappears despite the resistance to the season.

During this Christmas season, the All Africa Baptist Fellowship invites all Baptists on the African continent to proclaim Jesus as the benchmark.

Merry Christmas and happy New Year as we are going beyond Jerusalem !
