AABF OFFICE STAFF MEMBERS VISIT FORMER NIGERIAN PRESIDENT, HIS EXCELLENCY PRESIDENT OLUSEGUN OBASANJO

The staff members of the All Africa Baptist Fellowship were hosted for breakfast by President Olusegun Obasanjo, former president of Nigeria (1999-2007), who is a committed Baptist and great encouragement to God's people in Nigeria and beyond.

The delegation, led by the AABF Continental President, Pastor Elias Apetogbo, took place last Sunday, 18th January 2025, at the Abeokuta home of the former president.

The meeting was to formally identify with President Obasanjo as a political figure, Global Peace Ambassador, and a living Baptist legend who served incredibly in public offices.

The meeting was also to formally invite him to be part of the 2026 General Gathering of the All Africa Baptist Fellowship, where he is expected to serve as the keynote speaker for the Baptist Forum for Good Governance (BFGG), a non-partisan platform to bring current and prospective Baptist politicians together from across Africa.

The event is slated for Monday, 5th October 2026, in Nairobi, Kenya.

In his response, our host thanked the AABF office for the recognition. He affirmed that the Baptist community made him and expressed his readiness to be with us in Nairobi and see to the success of BFGG.

The Continental President decorated him with the official AABF lapel pin, and the team also had a sumptuous breakfast with the former president after the Sunday School session at the Chapel where he led the session..

Other members of the team are Rev. Dr. Testimony Onifade (Director of Ecumenism, Nigerian Baptist Convention), who  facilitated the meeting; Sis. Denise Apetogbo (Director, Children Ministry); Pastor Stephen Fadare (Financial Manager); Rev. Mawuli Gadzo (Missions Coordinator); Brother Agogo Iyiola David (Director, Media and Communications) and Sis. Diana Zogblah (Continental Events Manager).

The meeting concluded with a mutual commitment to see the Baptist Forum for Good Governance kick off successfully and a call to Baptists who are in politics to attend the gathering in October 2026.
