Global Baptist Leaders visit His Excellency Mr. John Dramani Mahama, President of the Republic of Ghana at Jubilee House
The Chair of Baptist World Alliance (BWA), Rev. Karl Johnson, Continental President of the All Africa Baptist Fellowship (AABF), Pastor Elias Apetogbo and the Chairman of AABF West Africa as well as President, Ghana Baptist Convention, Rev. Enoch Thompson were joined by other leaders of the Baptist family in Ghana on a courtesy visit to the President of Republic of Ghana, His Excellency, President John Dramani Mahama at the Jubilee House, Accra on Wednesday, 28th January, 2026 as part of the official visit of Rev. Johnson to Africa on the invitation of Pastor Elias Apetogbo.
The President of the Republic joined the Baptist leadership with joy and excitement as he sits to listen to the introduction of the Baptist delegation. Rev. Enoch Championed the introduction and described the President of the Republic as a gift of impact. He went on to appreciate him for the 2025 year-end gift offered to the Baptist family that was used to deliver 200 bed mattresses for a Baptist-owned institution in Kumasi.
The BWA Chair, Rev. Karl Johnson thanked the President for the quality and transformative leadership being experienced in the country and presented the message of the Baptist World Alliance to him.
In his message, ‘I represent the Baptist World Alliance, we are a body of 53 million Baptized Christians spread across six regions of the world including Africa. We stand for religious liberty, spread of the Gospel, social justice and reproducing God’s image in human being’’.
He also emphasized the bond that exists between Ghana and his home country, Jamaica. The bond that is committed to justice and the flourishing of humanity. He specially commended the Immigration Officers between the Togo and Ghana border where he experienced a first class treat that he would live to forever cherish. Although Pastor Elias added a small caveat, pointing out that this treatment was possible thanks to Reverend Karl's diplomatic passport. In his response, His Excellency, President John Mahama thanked Dr. Johnson for coming to his country and affirmed that ‘’Baptist is a well-known Denomination in Ghana, and the Church planted the seed of Christianity in the country’’.
He established that the Church and the Government are in partnership for Nation Building. ‘’The Church is in partnership with us to create investment in education, health, etc."
The President further admonished the Church to look in the direction of income generating ventures like agriculture, poultry, livestock and more.
He spoke passionately about the need for more vocational and technical training centers by the faith-based organizations. This he said, will help the country to prepare adequately for the future.
President Mahama wrapped up his address by reaffirming the ongoing commitment of his administration to join in rebuilding the ruins caused by Hurricane Melissa that stormed the Caribbean in 2025. On this, the President said 48 Ghanaian engineers were still in Jamaica to rebuild the houses and other dilapidated facilities, "the Atlantic should be a bridge and not an obstacle between us and our brothers’’. He also thanked the Ghana Baptist Convention for impacting lives with the Christmas gifts.
The Baptist delegation comprised serving and past officers of the Ghana Baptist Convention. They include Rev. Dr. and Mrs. Ernest & Juliana Adu-Gyamfi, Rev. Fred Deegbe, Rev. Bennet Elvis Niboi, Rev. Samuel Otu-Pimpong, Rev. Diana Nkansah, Rev. Victor Brew, Rev. Fred Deegbe, Rev. Tetteh-Annor Larbi and others. The historic visit was also witnessed by the Director of Communications, AABF, Bro.
